ACTPRO A Success At TAR University College

Over two days, lecturers and staff learnt how to present an inspirational speech. They also gained insights on how to motivate students to excel in studies and life, love coming to university and like study.

Cool Mum Super Dad Academy ran a successful two-day inspirational speech course, ‘Stand Up Speak Up: Aspire To Inspire’ recently at Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, Kuala Lumpur for a group of lecturers and staff. On the final afternoon, participants presented an inspirational speech before members of the management.

Cool Mum Super Dad Academy offers a unique public speaking workshop known as ACTPRO. ACTPRO stands for [A]ssertive [C]ommunication [T]echniques [Pro]gramme.

Case for Action

Today, teaching remains one of the world’s noblest professions due to the unique position teachers are in. Teachers have the potential to guide and inspire students to be the best they can be, to become agents for positive change.

However, this premise can only happen if the teachers are able to connect and engage with students. Students will only look up to teachers who succeed to build rapport and trust, who are seen to sincerely care for them and guide them.

The Changing Nature of Teaching

To be able to motivate and inspire students to excel, not only in their studies but also in life, teachers themselves must be aware of their personal strengths and areas that need improvement. Teaching is a challenging job; teachers need to reflect deep inside, to strengthen their resolve to be the kind of person who does more than regurgitate facts and figures.

Indeed, they must be individuals who possess the inner drive to succeed themselves and to make a difference in their students’ lives.  This is the quality that separates inspiring teachers and those who are less so. It wouldn’t be far-fetched to state that the quality of a higher institution can only go as far as the quality of its teachers.

Aiming High

Throughout the course, the lecturers learnt how to conduct motivational talks and  how to motivate students to excel in studies and life, love coming to university and like study. The lecturers gained insights on what motivates students to learn best and to succeed. At the end of the course, they developed a personal action plan to manage work life effectiveness and build inner drive to lead a meaningful life.

A beaming Dr Oo Pou San, Director, Centre for Continuing and Professional Education, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, who witnessed the participants on the first and second day of the program said, “The result speaks for itself.”
